This is an enormous synthetic alexandrite and diamond ring set in 14K white gold. Alexandrite is a gemstone that changes from a reddish-purple to a bluish-green color sometimes and is very expensive and very rarely seen over the one-carat size. In the 1960s, manufacturer's answered the demand for larger, more affordable alexandrite by creating these synthetic sapphire versions. Natural alexandrites can go from $15,000 per carat with anything over one carat fetching upwards of $50,000-$70,000 per carat depending on the amount of color-shift and attractiveness of its hues. Even these synthetic alexandrites are pricey because any gemstones that have phenomenal properties are considered superstars in the gem world. This alexandrite changes color to a rich reddish-purple in sunlight and an amazing blue-plum color in fluorescent lighting. The gemstone measures 17.5 mm by 14.2 mm equaling approximately 22.53 carats in total weight. There are two rows of diamonds on each side that equal .42 carats in total weight and are G-H color and VS clarity grade, leading to the triple split shank ring.
